Belated celebrations for 2020

Pictures from the past win the awards for 2020 at the postponed Annual Dinner!

Like the Olympics, the NRPS 2020 Annual Dinner to celebrate season winners, postponed from the usual February, took place in August 2021. A good gathering took place at Old Down where the eighteen assembled members wined and dined royally, and quickly resumed old friendships.

It was so good to see so many members who had chosen not to take part in the weekly walks and challenges, there in person, and although our President, Margot Witcombe did not feel able to be there, she was there in our thoughts and good wishes, and Chair Jenny Short performed the presentation duties that she otherwise would have enjoyed.
Bill Collett took photos of the event and some of these are in the web gallery entitled “Annual Awards Dinner” with full results having been published earlier in the year in RECENT NEWS 5th February entitled “Celebrating Pictures of the Year 2020”.

Jill Toman once again dominated the awards winning both the monthly Colour and Mono shields and taking first place in both Landscape and Sports/action sections.
Winner of the category “Other” with her “Bluebell Wood”, Janice Cuer, gave Graham Nicholls, winner of the Portrait category with his cheerful “Canal Boatman” a good run for his money for overall POY, but it was a beaming Graham who took the 2020 trophy, and set the bar high for 2021.

The Chair’s review of the past eighteen months, in which the club has prospered and developed was , of necessity brief, but warmly thanked Jill Toman for her support and efforts as secretary and programme organiser, and emphasised how much pleasure and support the alternative activities we have all enjoyed during Lockdown have brought to a period of time, that otherwise, for many would have been all too bleak.

Our Summer “break” continues but next Thursday at 6pm, those who wish to can meet for a pleasant rural walk in historic parkland at Marston, just outside Frome. Two potential new members have contacted us through the website and I am hopeful that both will join us informally for this. On Thursday 19th August a day trip to the coast following a short foray into Bristol streets, has been carefully planned by Suzanne and Jill. Details will be forwarded to all interested via e mail shortly.
