The NRPS Picture of 2024 was ably judged by acclaimed wildlife and travel photographer, Eddy Lane, who made the journey to Midsomer Norton from Calne, accompanied by his wife, Pam. Pam is equally well known in photography circles, and together they enjoyed the amazing Ginger Cake provided as ever by member Lou Bailey.
Eddy gave us all good advice during the feedback with regard to composition and cropping as well as pursuing a personal theme of lightening the eyes of subjects presented for competition. The four competitions (Action, Portraits, ‘Scapes and Other) attracted a good range of entries, although not all members took part.
The eventual overall winner of POY 2024 was Jill Toman with the colourful image “Akha Girl”, that also won the Portrait section and was taken on her recent trip to Laos. Janice Cuer came 2nd in this section with “Potter” taken on a club outing to Muchelny and Diana Walker’s “Gorilla”was 3rd. Jenny Short was HC for her portrait of one of the ploughmen “in the Field” at a local competition whilst David Bathard and Pamela Bruce-Lockhart were commended for “Let’s Tango” and “Anticipation” respectively.
David Bathard took 1st place in the ‘Scapes section with “Landscape Snowdonia” and Pamela’s “Drizzle on the Beach” ICM offering took 2nd with Jill’ s iconic Blackchurch Rock in 3rd. Tony Nineham was HC for “Atlantic Sunrise” and Jane Richardson was C for “Walking on the Beach “
The Action section had the least entries and was won by Jill Toman with “Enjoying the Wave”. Janice Cuer’s “Bath Half Marathon” was 2nd and Diana Walker’s “Polar Bear Playing Ball was awarded 3rd. Tony Nineham’s ”Dicing for the lead” was HC.
The “OTHER” section was won by Diana Walker with “Badger Emerging”, David bathard took 2nd place with “Raindrops and Sunlight”, and John Scaife was 3rd with “Samphire on the Rocks”. Jill Toman’s steam train photo was HC and Pamela Bruce Lockhart was C for “Shop girl”.
All the awards will be presented at our annual dinner on 6th March, and the winning images are all on our website, which you are welcome to explore.
The Westfield CC grant that we were awarded recently has enabled us to buy a new laptop for the club, and also to investigate how we can display our work at the MSN Hub. Members are reminded that the 2025 season continues with our next competition Letter S, entries for which need to reach the Secretary by 13th February.
