Kicking off the new season 2025-6
We showed our own !

The first meeting of the NRPS in the 2025/6 season was much anticipated, and did not disappoint, with a plethora of images from a summer of activity and frustrations as members engaged in a lively “Show Your Own” on Zoom. We were pleased to welcome Tobi Rumming-Paine as a guest considering becoming a member, and to congratulate Graham Nicolls on his recent 90th birthday. Both provided us with images to ponder- Tobi illustrated his wide-ranging interest in “having a go at anything” and Graham, as always, provided some classy macros from his garden, with the usual expertise and wry humour!
Other members chose photos of places near and far that they had visited during this hot weather, as well as local events they had attended, and showed off their interests and talents to good effect. We had macro and wildlife, soccer and swans, and the unusually low water landscapes that the Chew Valley offered because of the drought, featured more than once.
It has been a summer in which our planned club outings have had mixed results. The visit to the Shepton Prison was amazing but not too well attended, and whilst we were prevented from going to Avoncliffe on the boat because of damage it sustained the day before, many nevertheless really enjoyed a walk around Bradford on Avon in the sunshine. Similarly we were thwarted by parking issues at the Pumping Station by the Weir, so instead took to the canals around Bath for a pleasant afternoon. Pamela is to be thanked for her efforts to secure the opportunities we have had, and she is determined we WILL go to the Pumping Station in October!!
Tony Nineham sadly missed all the local action, opting instead for a trip to Peru with his wife and his camera, where despite a bit of food poisoning he managed some awesome shots!
Next week I will be presenting an illustrated talk entitled “Grace and Grit” that looks at photographing birds of prey, Suzanne will hopefully show her photos since she could not do so on Thursday, and we must all remember to submit our 4 entries for the first Open DPI Competition of the season.
